About

This special one-day workshop offers a wonderful, unhurried opportunity to connect your creative practice with the land. Working in collaboration with Limeburn Hill, the day is designed to immerse you in the natural world, engaging with your surroundings through both art and taste. Planted in 2015 by Robin and Georgina overlooking the beautiful Chew Valley in Somerset, Limeburn Hill is treated as a nature reserve, full of life, interest, and completely free of chemicals. Certified Biodynamic and Organic, they grow nine grape varieties on high trellises to capture drying breezes and protect delicate leaves from frost. Our day begins with an exclusive guided tour of this thriving ecosystem, learning how they use plant-based teas to nurture the vines and shape the land. From there, you will spend the day drawing in and around the vineyard. Guided by your tutor, Nik Pollard RCA, you will learn to closely observe and draw the organic forms and rhythms of the vines, the tranquil rolling scenery, and the beauty of the natural surroundings using a variety of materials. Workshop numbers are small so that Nik can respond to individual work, giving expert tuition where needed and helping you to build confidence in your own work. A delicious Somerset lunch is included: vineyard platters featuring exceptional local cheeses, regional charcuterie, fresh crusty bread, pickles, and refreshments. To conclude our full-day workshop, we will gather for a relaxed wine tasting session. Limeburn Hill makes predominantly Pet Nat (pétillant naturel) sparkling wines, alive with natural wild yeasts and crafted using skin contact, ancestral single-fermentation methods, and zero additives. We will sample these clean, fresh, and joyful wines right where the vines are grown, enjoying a true expression of the soil, the year, and the landscape we have spent the day drawing. LOCATION: This one-day workshop will be held on-site at Limeburn Hill Biodynamic Vineyard, Chew Magna (approximately 10 miles from the centre of Bristol). DO I NEED TO BE AN EXPERIENCED ARTIST? Whether you are a complete beginner or want to improve your skills, you are very welcome to join us for this exciting workshop. WHAT SHOULD I BRING? All drawing materials and equipment will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothes and footwear appropriate for outdoor drawing. YOUR TUTOR: Nik Pollard RCA is an artist based in Bristol whose work stems from a deep, direct observation of the natural world.
