About
A workshop exploring and developing drawing skills en plein air, at Leigh Woods, Bristol. You are warmly invited to join experienced artist and teacher, Nik Pollard, RCA, for an exciting one-day drawing workshop, en plein air, at Leigh Woods, Bristol. This special one-day course is designed for individuals keen to improve and develop their art practice and the field-skills necessary for sustained, outside observation and art-making. Nik will introduce participants to this beautiful and diverse broadleaf woodland, whilst supporting them to develop an observant and expressive response. Location: Leigh Woods is to be found to the south west of Bristol and provides a perfect sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of city life. It boasts a unique ecology thanks to its position on the edge of the Avon Gorge and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). You will be met by Nik at Leigh Woods carpark from 9.30am, with the workshop starting at 10am. Do I need to be an experienced artist? This workshop is specially designed for those wishing to improve their artistic practice and hone their skills in making work outside. Nik will support your decision making and help you navigate the practical issues of working in the woods. Basic materials will be provided, participants are also encouraged to bring their own drawing kit to use during the day. You will also want to provide yourself with a packed lunch and drinks. The workshop will go ahead in all weather conditions unless Trymwood Studios deems it necessary for your wellbeing and safety to postpone. It is greatly advisable that participants bring warm layers of clothing and wet weather gear. Your tutor: Nik Pollard is an English artist based in Bristol, UK. His work is generated from sustained, direct observation with paintings and drawings often resolved in the field. A period of dedicated study at single or related locations is a necessary part of his process. Drawing from all the senses, he investigates the rhythms and characteristics of a location and its ecology, resulting in a sense of time and place. Working with a range of mediums, he focuses on the essential aspects of what it is that has drawn him to the subject.
